Alpha Xi is the newest GLO at OK State and pledged half the quota total. How are they doing in regard to chapter total? I think it’s the only chapter of AXD in the state, so hope their HQ and local Alumnae are active with this fledging chapter.

Another topic:
Stanford University has cancelled in-person classes. Recruitment is in the Spring (April). Will they have Recruitment?

It has been postponed till Fall 2020.

"This week, OSE also informed Greek leaders that spring recruitment for fraternities and sororities will be postponed to fall quarter. The delay is a response to the university’s decision to move all course instruction online in the midst of the ongoing developments around the new coronavirus outbreak".

WOW! This is going to really effect chapter size, budgets and house occupancy. You have to hope that every sophomore who wanted to go through recruitment as a freshman (or sophomore who is now a junior) would still do so, but now they’ve made other housing arrangements, have chosen roommates, etc. Of course it’s unavoidable, but here’s just another layer in the fallout from this ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

Stanford sororities are going to have a difficult time as a significant number of juniors go abroad Fall semester. That will only leave seniors and a small junior class to hold recruitment. Two sororities, Chi Omega and Kappa Kappa Gamma, have just been awarded houses for the Fall. That leaves only Alpha Phi and Alpha Chi Omega without houses. Sophomores and officers traditionally live in the house. There may be problems filling the houses with only seniors and a small junior class. When this has happened years ago, the University moved independents into the houses to fill them.

Rose-Hulman has now been closed for the year—everything will be online. As with many schools, students were sent home for FOUR WEEKS of online with the idea they’d return early in April.
So now, students who have driven or flown home and NOW—somehow—have to return, pack up and vacate campus. While perhaps unavoidable, it’s a HUGE challenge. Many students of 1,000 miles away or more had parents bring them and drop them off in the fall. Elaborate lofts have to be dismantled, rooms checked, keys turned in. In the past RAs have done this. It’s a great challenge to say the least.

In addition, Rose is an ALL engineering school. Profs are struggling to figure out how to put labs online, not to mention Senior Design projects and presentations. Also the spring career fair is gone where many students obtained internships and co-ops.

As for the Greeks—our guys just realized there would be no composite for this year! While it’s a small thing, it’s something they are just now realizing. So MANY small things are impacted.

My heart breaks for the new member classes who weren't able to be initiated this semester because schools closed.
