Good Luck to DZ. ;-)

A group of us went to the Alpha Gamma Delta presentation last night and we are so excited about this possibility to bring Omicron back. I think Alpha Gam would be a great fit on the Cal campus and would have lots of local collegiate support for a colony. Fingers crossed that we are asked to come back to campus. Good luck to all that are presenting as well!

No. But if I may, why do you feel that way?

Do you know if DZ or Zeta still have their houses at UCB? It has been over 40 years, so my guess is no.

Neither own their former houses.

The former Delta Zeta house was designed and built for Delta Zeta by Julia Morgan (1924). It is now owned by the Presbyterian Westminster House

The former Zeta Tau Alpha House was also built by Julia Morgan (1911) but for C.W. Merrill. Zeta Tau Alpha purchased it in 1939 and then sold it to the Berkeley Student Cooperative in 1971 after the chapter closed.

We've just not done well there, and don't have the base in California that we have elsewhere in the country. It would be a shame to sink a lot of resources into a colonization that would be very difficult for us when there are others that may be a better fit.

I think the exact same thing whenever I see campuses open up for expansion in parts of the country where we're not as strong as other groups.

TSTeven - is the ex-ZTA house really that color of yellow or is it just the way the sun's hitting it? It's really pretty.

It really is that color; walked in front of it a few times.

Lots of nice, historic architecture around here. Main issue is that most buildings are falling apart quite badly on the inside.

Never knew who Julia Morgan was until I worked in a building (not in California) she designed. That building went through a massive multi-million dollar restoration 2-3 years ago so it's definitely faring better than some of Ms. Morgan's other masterpieces.

Any news on a decision or when there will be? Good luck to all groups that presented!

excelblue 04-12-2011 07:10 AM

Heard that the decision will be announced towards the end of this month.

From the Zeta Facebook page:

California, here we come! ZTA has been selected to colonize at University of California, Berkeley in the fall of 2012. It will be a reactivation of our Upsilon Chapter, the 21st link in our Chain of Chapters.

Go ZTA!!!
