Virginia Tech

Seeking advice from anyone that is familiar with NPC recruitment at Virginia Tech. A family friend, pnm, is disappointed with her results so far. Prefs are tomorrow and she is down to just a few chapters that she ranked consistently low through the process. She is talking about dropping completely, though I have encouraged her to see the process through.

Does anyone know if the campus adheres to a total? How many chapters normally do COB? Is that common or an anomaly? Do chapters doing COB publish that immediately after Bid Day or is it more just a few bids given out to friends? What is the informal process like in the fall?

I am trying to get a good idea of what her prospects are for a bid, post Bid Day, if she does drop.

Virginia Tech follows RFM for sorority recruitment. Quota will be set after preference round, and each group will be able to take quota. After recruitment, total will be reset based on the chapter sizes. Once that takes place, those chapters who fall under total will be eligible to COB. As to how many, who and the other questions you have, a call to the Greek Life office couldn't hurt.

How is total set? Is is established based on current chapter size? Do we know now what total is and which chapters are exceeding that number?

1) By vote of the college Panhellenic after recruitment. 2) Yes. 3) Current total is public so she can just ask her Recritment Counselor or the Adviser. 4) Yes that is public also. The entire process is public. Just a reminder that during formal recruitment, chapters that are above total( usually they are not until after formal recruitment) can pledge quota. If they pledge quota and are now above total they can’t COB until they fall below total. So the best recruiting chapters will most likely not be able to COB until the fall, and again, only if they fall below total.

Ditto FSUZeta!

I believe this campus sets Total based on the larger of median or average chapter size. That means that immediately following recruitment, they will reset Total based on the new median and average of the chapters.

If this is the case, it means that approximately half the chapters will be eligible to COB, but not all chapter choose to COB when eligible and some only have a few spots and already know who they want.
