If she wants a dark color, navy is a good choice and pairs well with many colors for shoes/accessories and it won't show sweat.
Length is critical. Remember - she'll be sitting at parties. I've seen girls forget this and they wind up uncomfortable on the floor as they try to make sure everywhere is 'covered.'
