throw what you know!

Hey guys! As a PNM i have contemplated what my new sororities symbol will be, with the always adorable hand gesture. Personally i adore the Zeta crown and Kappa Delta KD! Which would you throw if you werent already representing your amazing sorority?!

Really? Are you kidding?

I suggest that as a PNM, you worry less about what hand gesture you'll be using, and more about the important things...like recruitment. You aren't in yet.

This question is really stupid, especially since you're not even IN a sorority. Recruitment is about mutual selection, so there's no guarantee that there will be a "new sorority hand sign" to speak of. You have to be kidding.

<puts on recruitment counselor hat>

Based on your post, I assume you are interested in joining an NPC sorority. If so, you must first enroll in a 4-year college with NPC sorority chapters in existence. You must then go through the NPC recruitment process. It's best to keep an open mind throughout recruitment.

Or, if you choose to enroll in a 4-year college and (a) there are no NPC sororities or (b) you don't match with an existing NPC chapter, you can try to bring a new NPC sorority to campus. This is a long and difficult process; I speak from firsthand experience.

In any case, a sorority is much, much more than just a hand sign.

Not only that, not all chapters "throw down the handsigns". What might be cool to one chapter may be unheard of or even questionable to other chapters.

True, there are chapters of my sorority in NY that do a handsign, but if you went to one of our chapters in LA or NC and did it, they'd look at you like you were the tackiest person on the planet.

KCsunshinec44: You need to bring it down a notch, because honestly, recruitment is not a guaranteed process and discussing "what your new sororities symbol will be" and handsigns is a tad presumptuous because as it has been noted, you have yet to go through recruitment or receive a bid.

First of all, i believe there is a thread about handsigns already.

Second, what we are talking about is the fact that you said your "new sorority" which implies that you know you're getting in. Like people have stated recruitment is mutual selection, and you might not get into ANY sorority.

Being presumptious this early isn't a good thing.

KCSunshine, as others have mentioned in previous threads, you never know who might be reading your posts. While you may have thought it would be cute/silly, it comes across as presumptuous (sp?) and shallow to ask about an "adorable" hand gesture. Some may not think them very adorable. Bottom line--Be careful what you post!
I'm sure you're very excited about upcoming recruitment and I wish you the best of luckthis Fall!

Whoa. Bad idea. I recommend ratcheting the 'tude back a bit if you plan on continuing to ask for advice and information here. Tides turn quick 'round here sometimes.
