Active and Alum relations

Liaisons, let's share tips and what you do!

How often do you have active/alum mixers?

What kinds of things do you all do?

What sort of things do you include in newsletters?

Even if you've never been a liaison, feel free to share your thoughts on active and alum relations.

Our chapter is really trying to expand and improve on this area. And so far we have been successful.

We try to have one big alumni reunion each year (as I assume all chapters try to) and really put a lot of planning into it. It's usually on the same day as a good Husker Game and we have food, a cash bar (catered out), and people at the house either before or after the game depending on kickoff. Last year we also held a golf tourney that had a good turn out. So we're trying that again this year.

We are looking to have another 'medium' sized alumni appreciation banquet during the spring semester to thank the alums who have given though donations, volunteering, and generally staying involved with the chapter. We are starting to design some awards to give out annually to recognize outstanding alumni members. Along with the volunteering an idea about an alumni 'career fair' has been tossed around where we can invite successful alumni from different career fields to visit with undergrads who are interested in pursuing their professions. Hopefully internship opportunities and just good advice can come from it...but even just the contact between undergrads and alums is great!

Also, trying to have at least one new alumni guest at each formal dinner and chapter once a week has helped to bring in new faces and alumni presence to the house on a regular basis. Really reinforces the commitment to life time membership that we claim as Delts. Shows the undergrads that the fraternity belongs to more than just the men in it here and now, but also past and future brothers. It's been a positive thing...

We do a regular alumni newsletter. One thing we try to do is have the majority of the newsletter be about alumni, updates, spotlights, congratulations, chance encounters, etc. and a smaller amount about the chapter. Just an update on the status, planned projects and how alumni could help (donations of time, money, etc).

No matter what the goal of increasing alumni involvement is, I'd say interaction between alumni members themselves (reconnecting) and with the undergrads (building new connections) are key.

UNLDelt, I could not agree with You more!

We used to do a Alum Letter put out called the LambdaGram.

It put info for Actives and Alums, wht is going on! It kept interest up. It is an expense that has gone by the wayside when the Chapter Got into Money Problems.

"IF" a Chapter Can Afford it, I suggest Strongly that You all do it!

Oh, Mary and Joe had a New Son/Daughter and have moved to so and so, for a new job.

The Calander of Events are: Date and Time.

Updates on Chapter Events and maybe meetings, who is doing what.

Why? Alums can help with time and money!
