The Psychological Meaning of RED & YELLOW!
I found the comments on this website very interesting... especially this comment:
Yellow is the second most visually attractive colour after red.
RED:
A warm powerful and attention getting color. Red is a very visually empowering and attractive colour for an e-book cover. Cardinal and tomato red offer impact and creativity and a pure red is always a good choice.
The colour red is extremely dominating. Red reflects energy and can motivate an individual to take action and hopefully to buy your book. Used as an accent color, it can stimulate people to make quick decisions and increase expectations creating a high arousal threshold.
Words associated with this market include:
Truth, strength, courage, excitement, creative energy, desire, danger, power, speed, passion, love, lust, sex, aggression, heat and fire. It represents all things intense and passionate.
YELLOW:
Pure yellow produces sensations of brightness and warmth reminding us of warm, sunny days. Yellow is the colour of lemons, buttercups and rich cream. Sunflower and winter squash can be used in your design elements of your e-book cover to increase visual impact.
Yellow is the second most visually attractive colour after red.
Because this is a luminous colour you will notice yellow tends to disappear into the page so often needs a strong colour to highlight and bring it out especially if used against white.
Words associated with this market include:
Original, imaginative, joy, happiness, idealistic, creative, artistic, spiritual, optimism, intellect, love of learning, light, sunshine, summer, fold, philosophy, cheer, hope, happiness and energy.

More Research
Here are some color references for America.
Red………….excitement, strength, sex, passion, speed, danger.
Blue…………(most popular) trust, reliability, belonging, coolness.
Yellow……..warmth, sunshine, cheer, happiness
Orange…….playfulness, warmth, vibrant
Green………nature, fresh, cool, growth, abundance
Purple…….. royal, spirituality, dignity
Pink…………soft, sweet, nurture, security
White……… pure, virginal, clean, youthful, mild.
Black.……… sophistication, elegant, seductive, mystery, sexual
Gold……….. prestige, expensive, elite
Silver ……… prestige, cold, scientific
This also means that color affect shopping habits. Red-orange, black and royal blue attracts impulse buyers. Pink, teal, light blue and navy attract smart budget Shopper. Pink, rose and sky blue attract conformists.
A great exercise to experience this – visit large company web sites that have spent the funds on this type of research. Try McDonalds ( www.mcdonalds.com -- bright red) or Wendys ( www.wendys.com -- brownish red). Jaguar ( http://www.jaguar.com -- black for sophistication, green cool, and silver for prestige). It matches perfectly with their market -- high incomers with a view on sophisticated.

Yellow
A warm color.
Physical
Yellow is known to stimulate mental and muscular activity. This may be why babies cry more in yellow rooms. The transfer of visual ques from the eye to the brain is quickened by the presence of yellow.
Emotional
Like red, yellow has conflicting emotional symbolism. Yellow is the color of sunshine and is therefore linked to happiness, optimism and idealism. In heraldry, it originally indicated honor and loyalty. It has been shown that men associate yellow with childishness.
Joy, happiness, cheerfulness, warmth. Spontanity, caution, danger.
Cultural
In all cultures gold is the color of wealth and money.
In the US a yellow ribbon has come to be associated with missing or absent loved ones (yellow ribbon around a tree).
Red
Red is the hottest of the warm colors.
Physical
Studies have shown that red increases human metabolism by increasing respiration and raising blood pressure. Breathing becomes more rapid, appetite increases, and the senses of smell and taste are hightened.
Emotional
Red is the color of fire and is emotionally tied to everything intense or passionate. Love, anger, excitement, fire, speed, blood, agression, and war can all be invoked with red. In heraldry, red is used to indicate courage. The fact that red is used in stop lights, fire trucks and warning signs ties the color to a sense of danger. Men like to yellow based reds while women are attracted to blue based reds.
Love, romance, danger, power, aggression, war, hate. Passion, courage, vitality, life. Sexuality, sensuality, desire. Rage, anger.
Cultural
In the East, red is the color of happiness, good luck and fortune. It is often worn by brides.
In the West, and when used in combination with green, it is a Christmas color.
It is used in many national flags.
