It depends on what the sorority is trying to convey.
Yeah, they were very popular here a few years back, but during rush is another story for me! LOL I think in some ways I'm more conservative than most people here in SoCal. Although, the fact that I am also a preppy lawyer may explain it.

jbj52503, I completely agree with you on those suggestions.

I just read the new Cosmo (Summer/Fall 2006 issue) and it says that "It's all about leggings: Lots of starlets are stepping out in leggings...and so will you. This retro gam-wear is a very major must right now."

I think this is a bad idea. Leggings must be left in the past.

Did you miss that whole thread you started about leggings?

BLACK leggings, in mid-August?

Are you on crack? Do you know how sweaty and uncomfortable your legs are going to be? Do you want to run the risk of passing out?

You needed a [/ before your last QUOTE. It should read [/QUOTE] at the end. Sometimes if you erase part of the person's quote, it takes part of that with it.

I believe she's rushing in Central IL. Which as I said before is WAAAY behind the times in style and anything wacky that's "to-the-minute" shouldn't be worn.

Again, these might not fly in certain schools in the north east. Twin sets and pearls are considered "classy" by that age group in many parts of the country, but "dorky" and "matronly" by some. It's a geographical thing.

Maybe it's because I went to private school for a big part of my life, but I have never considered twinsets to be dorky and matronly.

I agree...I think looking classy and wearing clothes that are current but not super trendy (if that makes sense) is the way to go. Wearing a twinset from the 80's with "mom" style pants would probably look both dorky AND matronly. However, a pair of trousers with a great twinset will look perfect and classy.

Yes I very much like the saying before me "Are you on crack?" Obviously you are not from Florida or you would no how ridiculous this sounds. While it probably would look cute, it will make you VERY uncomfortable which in turn does not look very attractive. For example I will be a pnm at UCF this fall and the first day, I am planning on a simple, cute skirt with a matching shirt and heeled sandals (with a pair of flip flops between houses). Some advice I got from a friend who just graduauted from UCF, "don't wear anything that will show sweat and try to be comfortable." Also I would invest in some SureDry, its very powerful deoderant which actually closes the pores in your armpits making you not sweat at all. And have fun! I can't wait to meet all the new people at recruitment and hopefully make some new friends!

Upstate NY is a little different than the city.

The only school in Florida that recommends prom/homecoming-style dresses is UF, and that is only at preferentials. Every other school is much more casual-- jean skirts/khaki shorts, sundresses and a "church/graduation day-appropriate" prefs dress.

You're right. KLPDaisy's only been living in NY since she was 7. She doesn't know what she's talking about. Stupid Russian-born Jews.

I would say that it's okay to wear leggings to rush if the following things are true:

-you look awesome in them
-you're quirky/fashionable/stylish enough to put together a kickass outfit
-you're confident enough to pull them off
-the weather is not too hot for leggings.

Do I personally like leggings? No, and the thought of them gives me a horrible 80s flashback headache. That said, if you're 18 and you like them, have at it, even if you're somewhere that's not terribly up-to-date fashion-wise, IF you can work it.

There are very few articles of clothing that are never a good idea -- mom pants, baggy tentlike shirts, fake designer handbags -- anything else can work *if* you figure out your own style and what flatters you and then make it work. Twinsets can be frumpy or fab, depending what they look like and what you do with them.
