According the Director of Student Orgs. at Mansfield, that's when recruitment will be taking place - during the first week of school.

When I rushed, it was the week before classes started because there were always so many women (1000+). I remember having orientation one day and they had to help me plan out my recruitment schedule for that.

You rushed at a very different school than the one being discussed, which is why they were surprised rush was so early at the small school in Pennsylvania.
