Would a Lilly dress be too formal for spring rush?

I attend Florida State and will be participating in spring rush in a couple weeks. During spring rush all the sororities on campus hold an event where they table in the ballrooms in the student union and you can go up and talk to them about their sisterhood. The event is supposed to be pretty casual, but it is still taken very seriously and I want to look my best. I am considering buying a Lilly Pulitzer dress for the occasion but I don't want to look like I'm trying too hard. Would it be appropriate, or no? I can post a picture if that would help.

I'd have to see it. It may be Florida but Tallahasee can get cold this time of year. You may need something more seasonal than a Lily dress.

I can't decide which print I would get it in though.

^^^ I like it best with the belt, but I also think it might be a bit too casual. It is better to err on this side of being more dressed up than too casual. There's nothing wrong with putting forth your best during recruitment.

My daughter wore a short sleeved LP sweater dress for her recruitment last week, but that was formal recruitment. Has the Panhellenic office given any pointers on what women wear?

I think it would be fine with opaque tights and boots. Remember to dress for the season.

Contact the office of greek life or ask friends in sororities what would be appropriate to wear.

^^I concur, the navy print with tights and boots. The other two prints are too summery.

I have spoken to acquaintances in sororities and even they don't know what to expect because their meetings about spring rush aren't scheduled until next week, which is too late for me to order something online and nothing in my closet will do. The Office of Greek Life has not talked about appropriate dress for the event at all.

Maybe you could go with a Lilly skirt and a cute top (or lilly top with cute skirt)? That way it's kind of dressy but since they're separates it's also kind of casual.

Would this be a more appropriate Lilly dress for spring rush?

Too dressy and clubbish, if you are thinking of wearing it to the Winterfest tabling event. While you should dress nicely for the tabling event, pick something in between your first post and this post. And unless you just want to buy something new, I would bet that you have something in your closet already that would work.

I honestly have nothing in my closet that will do for this event. All of my sundresses are too summer-y. I would really like to buy a Lilly dress for Winterfest. I hate to be annoying, this will be the last time I post about this. I'm now between this:

Honestly, I would avoid Lilly at all costs for recruitment. Lilly has become so sororityized (new word) lately that it may come off to the chapters as you trying too hard . Have you tried looking other places, maybe Ann Taylor, White House Black Market, Nordstrom? You can find some very nice dresses there without looking like a walking stereotype . Good luck

Is that even a very dressy event? Sounds more casual to me like for nice jeans with boots and a cute top. I wouldn't want to look over dressed myself.

Also remember that discussing your wardrobe online will make you easily identifiable to anyone who is lurking here.
