Pledges?

What are some things that your chapter does with pledges to make them feel special and help them get to know more actives? We have "Beta Buddies" or "Angel Sis'" that buy small gifts for them, such as keychains, stickers and candy, so they have something when they come over to the house for meetings and formal dinners. What are some other ideas that your chapter does?

Thanks for the input!

In our colony, we have Turtle Buddies, who call you and ask you how things are going, give you rides to meeting, etc... and then we get Pledge Moms.

We have little bro's but we haven't thought ahead far enough to do anything for them as their big bro's. Maybe I'll buy something.

Only sororites do stuff like that. How it works here is this: Pledges get big brothers. Big brothers give them paddle and set of letters at iniation. Little brothers give big brothers paddles at initation. We might get them bottle of liqor when they find out who the big brothers is, but thats about it.

We don't do bigs and littles. Part of our pledging (excuse me, "new member education") has been they have to spend time out doing something with each brother, just the two of them. That worked well until this semester, because we have too many brothers and pledges to do that effectively, so we're doing it in pairs (two bro's to a pledge). It seems to work relatively well. I usually take them bowling- there's a great place across the river with a bar inside that doesn't card.

OH- and we don't do paddles. It's a little old-fashioned, I've always thought. The new member class designs something of their own to go in the house- the last class has a big picture of a prank they pulled together.

our big sis/lil sis period is quite long. they don't usually find out who their bigs are until the middle of the semester. but if we have mixers/social/whathaveyou... we will set up a mixer buddy for the new members. usually the mixer buddy will give them a gift of some sort: a glass, "water" bottle etc as a favor for the mixer they attended... sometimes it has candy with it or a soda if they are one of the DD's for the evening. Then the mixer buddy hangs out with them for the night, introduces them to different people, etc. that's it tho...

Our new members also don't find out who their big sisters are until about half way through. By keeping them in suspense, they get to know ALL the sisters rather than just their big.

We get a bronze, pink and blue sis each for one week leading up to getting our big sis. They are set up so that we get to know some of hte sisters, and this year they asked anyone not taking a little to take color sis. They give us cups, keychains, wallets, coozies, and other little things with the letters on it. Some of them make posters for the new members and stuff like that.
