Soror Rupert Richardson, Former National NAACP President Passes Away

It is with deep regret to post that Soror Rupert, mother of my chapter's president passed away. Here is an article from the New York Times on Soror Richardson.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/27/us/27Richardson.html

The link has been corrected. The family is in shock, as her passing was sudden.

We remembered her at the NC NAACP Humanitarian Meeting this past Saturday. I did not know she was a sister. The person that gave the tribute said her fondest memory of sister Rupert is her fondness for saying "elephants remember everything but men remember nothing." I did not know Sister Rupert but was surprised by the comments made during the tribute. Nonetheless, I hear she was a very colorful and lively person. I wish that I had opportunity to meet her.

Sounds like a life well-lived. My sympathies to the family, friends, and chapter sorors. I am sure that she will be missed.
