What do you like....

about school? I figured I'd start this post since everyone's heading back to school now. I know that we could all go on and on about what we DON'T like about school. But, I know there's just gotta be something that you like or love about school. So what is it?

I love my fraternity! If it weren't for the house, and the guys inside, school would be almost unbearable. They make it all worthwhile.

I love the incredible history and tradition that our College of Engineering has. The College-wide student organization for engineering students, Engineers' Club, is the oldest student org at OU. We are the only College on campus to nominate representatives for Homecoming (they are usually our King and Queen for the year). We have a secret society of engineering students, the Loyal Knights of Old Trusty, who keep the traditions alive.

My personal favorite, we have a great time during National Engineers' Week - we make E-Week our own with a Games Tournament, a Fluid Dynamics Lab (the study of green effervescent fluids held in cylindrical containers!)....usually held at a local pub! We have a Casino Night, as well as an evening where graduating members of the LKOT reveal their identities...the week ends with a banquet, where the King and Queen are announced.

The College and E-Club host a Fall Engineering Festival to acquaint incoming freshman with the various technical organizations within the College, as well as an Open House for jr. high and high school students interested in sciences, math, and design challenges. We also host a Career Fair.

The neatest thing of all is E-Club's fundraiser: we host "hamburger feeds" during home football games. Members of various technical organizations work at the feeds for $$ for their organization, and usually a plate goes for $6 (not bad considering you get a hamburger with everything on it, baked beans, chips, a drink, and even dessert). It all wraps up when the Pride of Oklahoma marches by, right past Felgar Hall (one of the first buildings on campus to house the engineering disciplines), playing "Boomer Sooner."

*sigh*...what memories! It's a joy to have been such an active participant in this grand tradition. I'm going to miss this when I graduate!

What do I like about my school? The campus! UBC is one of the most beautiful campuses in the world, and I believe the largest or 2nd largest campus in North America (area wise). We are surrounded by old growth BC forest, you know the old cedars and giant douglas firs. We are also right on the pacific, so let me tell you its to concentrate sometimes. You have a view of the ocean and the mountains, something most of us Vancouverites take for granted. Plus are campus has its own nude beach

While LSU was not my first choice for college, I've grown to be very happy here. I love the beauty of the campus. I love the electricity in the air on a Saturday night in Death Valley. Keep in mind, I really hate football, but nothing compares to being at an LSU game - there is some magic to it.

I also love the fact that due to the TOPS program, my tuition is paid for .

My favorite things about school....

Coming out of a really interesting lecture class and feeling like I have learned something.

Seeing my brothers/friends on campus and having some free time to hang out with them.

Spending time at "the table" the area where all the fraternities/sororities hang out.

When a friend/brother buys you lunch on campus 'cause their loan check just cleared.

Spending time outside on our campus the day before a cold front blows through and it's really warm and you want to soak it up because it's going to be cold tomorrow.

The excitement that builds during the week knowing that there is going to be a party/event that everyone will be at and will be a blast.

The day after the party/event talking with your friends/brothers about all the crazy things you did/saw at the party/event.

The smell our campus has after a rain (Our campus is covered with Cedar trees) and so the whole campus/part of town smells like a cedar closet after a rain.

Greek week.

The promise/optimism of rush.

Kicking butt on a test and knowing you worked your ass off for it.

Intramural football!!!

Homecoming!

The last class day before Thanksgiving or Christmas and finding out where everyone is going and seeing how excited they are to be going to visit their friends/family.

The parties after finals.

Ok, I guess I'll answer my own question now.

I go to U of Michigan, so it's all about FOOTBALL!! I LOVE football season!!! Awww the thousands that come from all over Michigan to crowd into the "Big House", the smell of the hot dogs and popcorn. The sun beating down on ya (during the September and maybe October games depending on how weird the Michigan weather wants to be), the student section standing the entire game cheering on our Wolverines and singing the BEST fight song there is. Awww, I can't wait until our first game!!!

I love Welcome Week, which officially starts in 3 days!!!! I just love watching all the freshies run around campus w/ that "I'm finally an adult and on my own" look in their eyes. It's so funny cuz they have NO clue what's in store for them their first year. It's also kinda funny watching them wander around campus looking like "where the hell is my dorm again"! lol
There's also a lot of fun events that go on during Welcome Week that are pretty cool to go to. My favorite is Escapade that takes place in our Union. There's lots of food, games and stuff. Then there's Festifall which is where about 300 of our 600+ students orgs set up booths on the Diag (the very center of campus) and peeps can come and get info on all the various orgs. It's pretty cool.

I love seeing all my friends again after the summer. Most of my really close friends have graduated though But I'm still looking forward to seeing my other friends and acquaintances again

I love going to class the first day to see what cute guys have also signed up lol!

And I absolutely love our campus. It's situated in the middle of town so there's plenty of shops, restaurants, coffee shops and stuff around.

This year I'm gonna really love being in my sorority. This will be our 1st full school year on campus (we were established during the Winter (spring) term of last year. So this year, we are preparing for our first Rush!!! I can't wait because I am the assistant new membership chair and we have been planning so many fun activities for our future sisters

I'm gonna miss school so much. It's my last semester *sniff, sniff*. Time to go out into the "real" world soon!

fabulous topic! hmmm, wht do i love about school?

i love being a musician in a top conservatory. i love how when i walk down the halls, i'm gretted with hugs, kisses, many hellos...hear people singing, playing, dancing, acting--everywhere i go within that building. i love how all the professors know you by your first name and actually care enough to talk to you about your weekend and how you're doing in the classes you're taking.

as for non-academic, i adore my apartment this year *even though i haven't moved in yet*. it's one floor, shared by me and my little, huge bathroom, full kitchen, living room and bedroom. it's a fabulous place in a great location. i like the parties on campus and the fact that no one really pressures you to drink or use drugs...if you want to, fine. if not, that's fine too.

hands down, what i love most about school, and sometimes the only reason i feel completely happy there, is sigma alpha iota. if i didn't have my sisters, i'd be lost in this world. they mean so much to me and i hold them close to my heart.

As a University of Illinois graduate, let me say first that I am pumped about September 23rd...Illinois vs. Michigan. My friend got a bunch of tickets to that game, and I will be there. Now that Illinois has a good football team, I enjoy football season even more. Should be a great game. The Illini and Wolverines have had a recent history of exciting games though.

What else did I like about school...my fraternity, hanging out on the Quad all afternoon during warm weather, good classes that motivated me to work hard, the huge campus with so many people and so many things to do, living in the dorms (some people don't like dorms, but I had a blast living there for a year and a half)...

i LOVED football season, there's nothing like an HBCU football game....or rather the halftime show

I've been out of school for a couple years now. But some of the best things (& things I miss the most about college):

• 10:00 Thursday nights: Waffle House (If you don't know.. Waffle House is this tiny, greasy dive restaurant that's open 24 hrs, serving breakfast or dinner. They only have 2 types of waffles: plain or pecan.. so I don't know where the name came from).
  
• Skipping classes to go do whatever w/ your friends on beautiful fall or spring days (not that I endorse such behavior ).
  
• The mentality of college students, especially residents of dorms, that it is perfectly acceptable to call and/or show up at someone's door at absolutely any hour of the day or night, for any reason. And the fact that, usually, it was okay.
  
• I could actually talk to my profs about anything, they knew me, and were interested. They would talk to me about non-academic stuff, etc. (a benefit of a tiny private school).
  
• Phi Beta events & projects.
  
• The way that you could smell the flowers blooming in the spring. Sitting outside on spring days w/ the intent of doing some studying or homework, but really just ending up socializing w/ everyone that comes along.
  
• Reading Day: The day after spring semester ends.. there is one day off before finals commence. It's intended for studying,cramming (or if you're a music major, JURIES.. which are not, according to school policy, to be held on this day), etc. What really happens: huge parties (my roommie & i always threw great ones) and BTR-Born to Run. This is the campus' naked student run, every Reading Day @ midnight. A tradition from the '70s. Anyone can run.. everyone wathces (and brings cameras.. yikes!). Apparently the university's new president banned BTR this past year. According to faculty and students alike, it brought the campus together like nothing before, & there was a little ruckus on that night.

ZChi... I lived in Ann Arbor w/ some friends the summer of '97 & fell in love with that city! There's just no place like it..from the people to the environment to the billion coffee shops and bagel shops. I really liked how you could walk ANYWHERE. I lived on S. Forest near S. University. If it weren't for the winters, I'd probably move there now. You really brought back some memories. And my step-dad is a huge U of M fan.
