Symphony of Alpha Xi Delta

These things, do we earnestly desire:

A clear vision of life,
That with gracious and kindly hearts,
We may share both joy and sorrow,
And bring into living reality,
The sisterhood of women.

An appreciation of real merit and worth,
Steadfastness of soul,
That without bitterness or defeat,
We may encounter misfortune,
And with humility meet success.

These things, O Lord,
Help us to instill within our hearts,
That we may grow in
Courage, Graciousness and Peace

My favorite lines are in bold. I love the whole Symphony but these parts speak to me more than the other parts.

The Delta Zeta Creed

To the world,
I promise temperance and insight and courage,
To crusade for justice,
To seek the truth and defend it always:
To those whom my life may touch in slight measure,
May I give graciously
Of what is mine;
To my friends,
Understanding and appreciation;
To those closer ones,
Love that is ever steadfast;
To my mind,
Growth;
To myself,
Faith
That I may walk truly
In the light of the Flame.

the whole thing is so meaningful, in every walk of life. for me, the most meaningful part is the part that's bolded. i might end up getting some form of that tattooed on me, just because it's THAT meaningful for me.
also, at every meeting we say the creed and do it in sign language, which makes it EVEN MORE meaningful, considering you really have to think about what you're saying.

Sorority Purpose

The purpose of this sorority shall be to unite its members in the bonds of sincere and lasting friendship, to stimulate one another in the pursuit of knowledge, to promote the moral and social culture of its members, and to develop plans for guidance and unity in action; objects worthy of the highest aim and purpose of associated effort. The purpose of this sorority shall be advanced through the National Convention, the National Council, and the college and alumnae chapters.

i really love all parts of that. i mean, every chapter should rise to the challenges that are given with these mission statements and with the creeds we're given....i absolutely love everyone's creeds, missions, and symphonies : ]

My favorite part is the beginning: "To the world, I promise temperance and insight and courage, to crusade for justice, to seek the truth and defend it always." It's all good stuff, though.

Ahhh - I just LOVE our creed so much!! I can't even begin to pick my favorite parts. Each one speaks to such a different part of life, one cannot be more important to the other. But whenever I say "That I may walk truly in the light of the Flame" I get chills! It's such a reminder to live up to the vows that I took and to encourage others to do the same. Everything ya'll have posted so far is inspiring, but of course I personally nothing will ever mean more to me than this. My poor [future] family will have to look at this each and every day as I plan to have it hung in my house as a constant reminder of my responsibilities as a woman and as a Delta Zeta.
AMEN SISTER!!!

I can't think of even one part of our Creed that I don't like, so I'll just say "I Believe that my sorority is more than a ritual or a symbol; that it is a way of life." I think it's because our Creed has been set to music, and that's a refrain heard throughout it - but I love and believe all of it!

Alpha Sigma Tau Creed

As a member of Alpha Sigma Tau,
I believe in the permanence and loveliness of its ideals.
I believe in the values of friendship and fidelity to purpose.
I believe in the fulfillment of self and will strive to contribute my share to the progress of mankind.
I believe in cultivating beauty of spirit and graciousness of living in all my contacts with others.
I believe that faithfulness to these ideals will help me to live joyously and valiantly.

I don't have a favorite line per se. I guess my favorite thing is the repeat of "I believe" because....well, I do! I believe in all of the things AST stands for - the purpose, the ideals and everything that goes with them!

"The white rose for its purity"

I have liked white roses before I had even heard of Theta Phi Alpha. And no, it is not a reason why I chose my GLO. But this part of the creed means a lot to me for many reasons.

We have an entire declaration of principles thats pretty long, but the most important paragraph is the 9th one:

We believe that the essential elements of true brotherhood are love, charity, and esteem; love, that binds our hearts with the sturdy chords of fraternal affection; charity, that is impulsive to see virtues in a brother and slow to reprove his faults; esteem, that is respectful to the honest convictions of others and that refrains from treading upon that which is sacred to spirit and conscience; these are the triple obligations of every brother in the bond.

As a pledge, your expected to learn this inside-out. Its the most important part of our DoP.

THAT IS CRAZY!!!! There is a line in our creed JUST like that!!!

To realize that within our grasp, in Zeta Tau Alpha, lies the opportunity to learn those things which will ever enrich and ennoble our lives; to be true to ourselves, to those within and without our circle; to think in terms of all mankind and our service in the world; to be steadfast, strong, and clean of heart and mind, remembering that since the thought is father to the deed, only that which we would have manifested in our experience should be entertained in thought; to find satisfaction in being, rather than seeming, thus strengthening in us the higher qualities of the spirit; to prepare for service and learn the nobility of serving, thereby earning the right to be served; to seek understanding that we might gain true wisdom; to look for the good in everyone; to see beauty, with its enriching influence; to be humble in success, and without bitterness in defeat; to have the welfare and harmony of the Fraternity at heart, striving ever to make our lives a symphony of high ideals, devotion to the Right, the Good, and the True, without a discordant note; remembering always that the foundation precept of Zeta Tau Alpha was Love, “the greatest of all things.” -- Shirley Kreasan Strout

I think the entire thing is beautifully written, but more importantly, incredibly meaningful!

Kappa Alpha Theta

Kappa Alpha Theta's Fraternity Purpose and Mission Statement (I put in bold my favorite parts):

Fraternity Purpose:

The intellectual ambition of the Fraternity shall be the attainment of highest scholarship. The social aim of the Fraternity shall be to exercise the widest influence for good. The moral aim of the Fraternity shall be the standard of love.

Mission Statement:

Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Kappa Alpha Theta exists to nurture each member throughout her college and alumnae experience and to offer a lifelong opportunity for social, intellectual, and moral growth as she meets the higher and broader demands of mature life.

Okay, so I love our mission statement!

-Esther Requarth, Nu

Sigma Alpha Iota Chorale
by - Margaret Blackburn, Alpha Mu

Daughters of a great and singing nation,
Let your voices rise in dedication,
Music tells unspoken noble creeds;
Music beautifies the simplest deeds;
Sing we now to Sigma Alpha Iota.

Sing the greatness of the soul and spirit,
Sing the joy of peace and friendship's merit,

Music is a kind and truthful speech;
In a language out of mere word's reach,
Sing we now to Sigma Alpha Iota.

Those are all my favorites for SAI. I'm still thinking about Phi Sig. I'll post that later.

Forgive my ignorance. What is a symphony? I've never heard that word associated with anything but music.

To see beauty even in the common things of life
to shed the light of love and friendship round me
to keep my life in tune with the world that I shall make no discords in the harmony of life
to strike on the lyre of the universe only the notes of happiness, of joy, of peace
to appreciate every little service rendered
to see and appreciate all that is noble in another
be her badge what it may
and to let my lyre send forth the chords of love, unselfishness, sincerity.
This is to be my symphony.

All of it. I really can't choose... but if I must, I love the first line. I consistently try to live like our symphony.

"...to find satisfaction in being rather than seeming..."

When I pledged, I found this line to be so important, especially in Greek life, because in life we so often encounter fake people that I felt it was important to live this part of our creed.

I also like:
"...to be humble in success and without bitterness in defeat..."
This line seems to be in a lot of creeds out there but I think it's a good one to live by too.
