The little b*tch was trying to get us a rush infraction! She was cut that day.

That same day, I rushed a girl who was slightly...um...weird. First, she sat there and told me about how much she loves bowling and hopes that ZTA has bowling socials (no offense to anyone who loves bowling but this girl was going on and on about her average scores and the weight of the ball she uses). Then, she says to me, "I know that I'm not exactly thin. I'm just afraid that when I join Zeta that you all are going to stand me up in front of the whole chapter in a bikini and circle my fat." I had a heart palpitation. I said as calmly as possible, "If you joined Zeta, we would not circle your fat. We do not condone hazing." We cut her that day.
Who would go to a bathroom during a rush party? I thought it was considered rude.

Somebody who has to pee? At schools where there are 10 or 16 parties and you get a beverage at each one, I can see how it would happen.

Of course, I can speak for every rush where there are more than 10 groups, but I know at UGA in the early 1990s you could ask to use the restroom between parties. (Rho Chis would escort people into the house, if I remember correctly, and everyone on the chapter side knew people might be in that section of the house.) While I don't think you'd absolutely get cut anyplace because you asked to use the restroom, choosing to go during a party sent a pretty clear message of disinterest, seeing as you could have elected to go before the party.

I know some girls honestly have to use the restroom sometimes during a party, but my Little rushed a girl once who ment it to be rude. It was the second day, and the PNM apparently made it quite obvious that we were not one of her top choices. She only answered questions with yes or no answers and practically inhaled the food she was given. Then she asked for seconds, and when she was done with that asked to go to the bathroom. When my little pointed out that the party was going to end soon, the girl rolled her eyes and insisted that she had to go NOW.

So...did Miss I-Gotta-Pee-NOW end up getting a bid anywhere or did she let her sparkling personality shine through at other chapters as well? Just curious - makes you wonder how such blatantly rude people could ever receive a bid from a chapter.

I'm wondering that too.

Well, I can understand that...if a girl REALLY needs to use the bathroom, then it's probably permissible. Having rushed before, I could sympathize with that.

Then I end up having to rescue a sister who was trying to hold a conversation with her and the girl has nothing to say. She answers in as few words as possible to every single question and then smiles at me waiting for my next question. It wasn't a conversation so much as a very direct interview.
I ask her what she is most interested in about sororities since it's the end of her first day and I find in Canada at least, a lot of girls rushing do so out of curiosity because they don't know anything about sororities besides what you see on TV. I figure that by the end of the first day, something must have caught her eye. No, not her. "well, you know..." And I'm thinking, "No! I don't know! Tell me something about yourself - anything!"
I haven't been having these problems talking with anyone all day and I am running out of things to say.
Finally, I find out she's a sophomore and ask what she was involved in last year and she says Amnesty International. At first I'm excited because it is an actual answer to a question. So I ask her about what she did with them and she starts telling me about their plans for releasing alleged terrorists from Guatanamo Bay, which is pretty controversial and I'm starting to wish I hadn't asked because she's getting into an explanation of their innocence. Sisters and rushees nearby are hearing "terrorist" and "prison" and looking over with raised eyebrows and I'm smiling awkwardly because I don't really want to talk about this anymore but I have no idea what to talk about with this impossible girl.
Luckily, someone rescued me at this point and brought her over to look at some event scrapbooks.

It was definitely the most awkward and difficult conversation of my life. I've never worked so hard to get someone to tell me essentially nothing. At then end, in spite of all the questions I asked her, all I knew about was her involvement with Amnesty International. Oh and that she didn't wash her hair that day which was on the gross side.

HA!

Yep, she did get a bid from somewhere and she's still there too. I assume she was perfectly nice to them, although I find it really hard to believe because she was a legacy to another chapter on campus and I hear she didn't give them the time of day either. And the chapter she was a legacy to is one of our top chapters! I guess she had her house picked out and wasn't going to settle for anything else.

I'm pretty sure that the first I listed went where she's a legacy at. She was probably nice to them. I'm not positive though.

As for the second girl....I talked to a friend of mine a week after rush who is a KD. She told me that the same girl asked one of her sisters that same exact question. I'm assuming that she asked all the sororities that question then. I don't think any sorority in their right mind would keep her.

Two girls I remember back in my day of rushing in the early 1990s.

I rushed this girl who had shoulder length black straight hair parted down the side. HOWEVER, her one side of her hair hung directly infront of her eye (I forget which side) so much that you could only see her one side of her face. We commented on it but she was cute enough to bring back and thought that maybe her barrette fell out or she didn't want to figdet with her haid all through our party so she kept it infront of her face.

Anyway, next round she cam back and her hair was exactly the same. Now we were wondering if she had an eye behind her hair or if it was an empty socket! It was a running joke among us as to whoever had her to try to find out what was hidden under her hair. It was really creepy after a while but also really funny.

She pledged a prodimentely jewish house on campus and we never found out if it was an empty socket or what!

Next girl I had was BEAUTIFUL. I mean drop dead. I mean so beyond beautiful she was almost painful to look at because she was so outstanding looking. HOWEVER, she was a total and complete b**ch to me. We invited her back and again I came over and said hello and she seriously didn't attempt manners with me or anything and didn't speak to me. Or anyone else.

I wanted to cut her but I was a pretty respected member and we were a new chapter and our advisors wanted us to keep her for as long as we could for eye candy. Fine, during voting I was mature and voted for her stating that there were two more rounds of parties and she was quite beautiful. Fine, we kept her and I was sick about it. Third round (before preference) she came back and was exactly the same. So, she wasn't just rude to me but also my little and other sisters so I had had it. Respected member or not I directly went to our national officers who were there supervising and CRIED (I am not a crier) to them saying that I DO NOT want her as a sister. Knowing that if we didn't cut her this round, she would be on our bid list once she showed up at preference. Luckilly we cut her and you know what? EVERY other house did too.

She was a nightmare.

For the first round of recruitment, all the rushees wear the exact same T-shirt, paired with whatever they are comfortable in, usually cute jeans or khakis. Once girl, however, decided to modify hers a bit. She actually had cut the sleeves and neck off. She had then cut the side seams open, and fastened about twelve safety pins on each side to hold it together.

Another girl came through and was immediately noticed because she has blue hair. This isn't the South, so you might be able to get away with that. Then she flicked off her rusher during a party. You do not get away with that.

I love this post...
I remember last semester we had a get together at one of the houses and a sorority member spilled a drink on the floor, me and two other brothers went to get towels and napkins and when we turned around a rush was lying on their back cleaning it up with the shirt they were wearing.....it was honestly so funny to see this kid degrad himseld without knowing what fraternities ARE REALLY about...but we gave him a bid anyway and i took him as a little....his actually one of our better and more active brothers.

My friend just told me this story yesterday and I'm not really sure if it goes in this thread or the other "crazy pnms" thread.

Anyway, my friend was rushing this girl, lets call her Jane, who had it all. She had a great GPA, lots of activities, solid recs, and was pretty. My friend was excited about meeting her, and when she began rushing her, the girl just kind of shifted her weight from foot-to-foot, while drinking her water, not really paying attention to my friend. Jane says something like "You know, you're really boring. Do you know who I am? Ugh! Why didn't XYZ at least try to interest me with a better rusher" Needless to say my friend is rather flabbergasted and said "Well, I'm sorry I'm boring to you. We'll be bumping in just a sec, so you won't have to deal with me much longer" Sure enough, they bumped and Jane somewhat engaged her new rusher. Well apparently, this rusher didn't "know" who she was either. Jane got pretty agitated and "accidentially" spilled her water with a smirk. As the rusher walked away, my friend heard Jane say to another pnm "ugh, thank God that bitch is gone for a few minutes"

Well turns out, Jane's daddy owns a bunch of companies in our area ($$$$$) and also does a lot of community work (visable family). She was just pissed that no one was bending over backwards to impress her because of her family's name. Needless to say my friend's group dropped her that day. Jane ended up getting a bid, but was then kicked out before initiation due to some major drama.

Probably one of her new sisters didn't know who she was or something..

Sounds like she didn't want sisters, she wanted an entourage!

I just spent a few days reading and laughing at this thread.

So my story is not as weird and crazy as much as awkward.

I rushed fall 06, and there was a heavy set girl who looked rather homely in my pref group (I'll call her Jen). She was a very sweet girl, but none of the 4 sororities on campus bid her. Later I learned from my sister that while Jen was a nice person, she reminded everyone of a mom rather than a peer; the way she spoke, carried herself, etc.

Fast forward to spring. I was dorm-storming with girls from the other 3 orgs knocking on doors to distribute flyers about recruitment. Everything's going fine and dandy until we knock on one door, and Jen is standing there. The four of us on the other side pause for moment, hand her the flyer, say our greeting and leave. She was polite, but noticeably uncomfortable. The moment the door shut, we all looked at each other.

The girl from XYZ said to me, "Did you guys give her a bid?"
Me: "No. Did you, ABC?"
ABC: "No ... DEF?"
DEF: "Nope."
XYZ: "We called her 'the mom'."
Me, ABC, DEF: "US TOO!"

Jen didn't come back out that semester.
