^^^ Awww. They all look so happy and pretty. I always loved Bid Day, it was so neat to see everyone running and smiling and posing for their candid pics.

Me, too! Good gracious I miss it. I've got to try and work in a trip to my alma mater or to help at my local chapter for their recruitment. It's been too long!!!

No. We did NOT have bid day tees. We had these other things called Pledge Pups that were little stuffed dogs with long ears. You kept your pledge pin on the dog's ear, with the tiny bows showing your colors just above it.
I pledged 40 years ago and oh boy, did your Mom's pledge class photo bring back memories.
What a wonderful memento you have, Daisy!

Wow. That one caught my eye as well. My late Mother in Law was a member of the Phi Mu Chapter at Baker.

I agree w/ mystikchik - we did dress "older" - we always had on full makeup, hose & flats to go out to the bars and in general. You have to remember this is coming off 10 years of our older sisters wearing t shirts and bell bottoms, or for formal occasions, looking like Laura Ingalls ( basic example) and wearing little to no makeup. It's the cycle of fashion. Also, guys were either taking their cue from the English musicians and running around in ties, or Alex P. Keaton clones. We would have looked dumb dressed down next to them.
The advantage of this is that now, I think we look far younger than people 10-20 years older than us did at our age, because the clothes we wore weren't so "young" that we had to make a drastic change. Look out girls, when you hit 30 and your bod doesn't look the same in spaghetti strap tops, it's gonna suck hard.
|
Omigod. Gunne Sax. WHAT a hoot. Anyone remember the Young Edwardian label as well? Spaghetti straps? What a distant memory!!!
I worked in fashion when I was in college. Made one of those "college fashion boards" at one of the local department stores and modeled and worked at the store. Those were the dayzzzz....

I wore a Gunne Sax by Jessica McClintock to my first formal military ball (with white gloves, of course) and thought I was quite the fashion statement. I wish I still fit into it. sigh.

I refused to buy any Gunny Sax dresses, but I had a friend who had one in every color. AND, she wore them to the bars. So there we were, all dressed in our New Wave duds with ripped up shirts and she looked like Little House on the Prairie. My brother still laughs about that, and it was 25 years ago.
