Jobs alumni hold

Hi Sisters,
I'm curious what sorts of jobs Sigma Alpha Alumni have. Do they relate to agriculture or have you gone a totally different direction? I just got a job as an Animal Keeper at the National Zoo's Kid's Farm exhibit ( http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/KidsFarm/ ) Those cute goats are my 'main' charges!
Hope to hear from everyone soon!

Shelley

I am working at the Ionia Conservation District (www.ioniacd.org). My degree is in animal science and agriculture business management. My job is education coordinator and promotions. I enjoy job, its all about natural resources, and we work with a few ag producers.
Its not the job that I had hoped to find, but I've learned alot and it will be a huge resume builder. It is a stepping stone for me no matter which direction my career takes; I'm planning to apply with USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service this fall. My work at the Conservation District will really boost my resume, as the two organizations already work very closely.

Wink

More than a decade after undergrad (the time goes so fast!!!), and a year after finishing an MBA, I'm working for John Deere, but in the C&CE division. Looked at some other companies but this was a really good fit for my background and interests. Prior to bschool, I worked at two different marketing communications agencies (primarily on ag or turf-related accounts) and at a manufacturing company as an ag mktg specialist. Just can't seem to escape ag's pull! ;-)

p.s. If any other sisters are working for Deere, please send me an email -- I'd love to have a list of who is with the company!

My degree is technically Agriscience specializing in Animal Science and I work for Blair Televison as a sales assist. Blair is part of the Petry Media Corporation and is a media marketing firm. I work in the Detroit office and so far I love it!

Technically my job these days is grad assistant at LSU but I did get to work for the USDA this summer. I worked at the Southern Regional Research Center in New Orleans as a biological science technician. I was working with a plant physiologist on fresh cut fruit studies. Hopefully once I finish my master's in food microbiology I'll find a job in quality assurance in the food industry.

I definately ended up taking a different route. I have an undergraduate degree in Horticulture (my main interest was in landscape design), and my MS is in General Agriculture (thesis was an urban forestry preservation project). However, I'm now on my way to becoming a licensed interior designer and am employed as a designer for an architectural firm. Our company was the lead in the Reliant Stadium project (where the Houston Texans play). I'm an interior detailer which means I spend most of my time using computer aided drafting detailing how to build millwork (cabinetry), ceilings and restrooms for a variety of commercial buildings. Every once in a while, I get a chance to review landscaping bids and drawings for our projects. I've maintained my link to agriculture by gardening, helping friends with landscape design solutions, and continuing to raise registered gray Brahman cattle.
