Lightbulb meeting ideas

Is there anything that you do in your meeting that you think makes things more productive? Anything that is different from what other houses do? Here are a couple of things my house does in meeting that I really enjoy.

1. Roll Call -- We state another chapter name -- location/letters(this way we learn other chapters and are reminded of how large Sigma Nu is). Next we state how many absences we had for the past week. Finally we state whether we were at LEAD or not in the past week and why.

Example:
Recorder: Kevin Taylor
Delta Theta, Knox College, zero, I was at LEAD

The recorder keeps track of how many abensces the chapter accumulates during each year so we know our chapter's average attendance rate. This is one way we emphasize grades.

(We stole this idea from the Epsilon Epsilon Chapter [Oklahoma State] -- our chapter advisor is an Ep Ep alum)

2. Roses & Thorns: Each member gets to give out a "rose" which is something positive such as:

"A rose to the Sigma Kappas for their great work with us in Greek Week"

or thorns.. Thorns are something negative we have to say that we want to share with everyone else...

"A thorn to the people that keep parking in our parking lot. I kicked 3 out last week".

The recorder tallies up the roses and thorns so we can have something of a attitude barometer.

Here are just a couple of things we do. Please share if anyone else does anything that would be considered "different" in their meetings.

We have formal meetings every week except the last Tuesday of the month. We have ritual at every one except that one as well, which I have found to be uncommon. We run the meeting like a meeting, and have attendance taken at each one. We charge $25 for missing a meeting, and $75 for missing a ritual event. We also have Petals and Thorns, but we do it different. We go around the room at the end of each meeting and have each brother speak his mind. Thank people for doing a good job, or tell people off that need to be told off. It works very well. I have also seen this called Pass the Gavel. According to nationals, we have done a very good job running our meetings. We do not put up with a bunch of BS. If people are being very disruptive, we kick their asses out.

Good luck,
