our rush...

IFC rush at SDSU started this week. it has been going good for my house...but it has been hard for me since i am IFC rush director as well. we started bidding tonight and decided we would only take 6 today. we had a lot more that wanted it, but we want to be selective this semester. there are at least 4 more guys left from tonight that we really want, and that we are sure will sign bids tomorrow. i will keep you all posted.

here is my drama...since i am IFC rush director i keep hearing about houses that have broken rush rules...one being early bids. i know it is part of my job to let the IFC advisor know, but i just feel guilty. it hit home when one of our guys tryed to get his friend from class to come by for rush today, but he had already accepted a bid at another house the night before. you are not even allowed to start bidding until noon today (tuesday). i dont want to report it because i dont want to be that guy that no one can trust, but i feel obligated. any advice here (from guys who have experienced this---no offense girls, but you have different standards than us, and IFC is so informal).

If you DON'T report you- you will be the guy that no one can trust!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think a lot of people will agree with me when I say that's one of the worst possible things a Rush Director could do- is to turn a blind eye to recruitment violations!!!!!!! That's one of the reasons for the position.

Rules are there for a reason. What the hell's the point of having them if they're not going to be enforced? As long as you are fair about it- report your own house if they're doing something wrong, and don't report one house but not another.

We had this happen in Panhel rush at Pitt last spring. Two sororities (which shall remain nameless, for obvious reasons) went door to door in the freshman dorms handing out fliers for their sororities. One tried to get past it by stapling it to the back of a general rush flier. This is a HUGE infraction, something that is blatantly stated in the rules. Plus it's just dumb- they knocked on two of our girl's doors (who had pledged in the fall) and gave them fliers. Which they subsequently gave to us. When it was reported, the VP Internal of Panhel was like "well, i don't know....." and dragged her feet and nothing was ever really done. That REALLY pissed a lot of us off, and people lost a lot of respect for that girl.

Essentially, you have a job to do, and if you don't do it, you're going to make some enemies and lose respect for yourself and your house. Yeah you might piss some people off for reporting their house, but it's their own damn fault anyway. If they break a rule, they have to deal with the consequences of breaking that rule. That's how life works...

BTW- sorry that i'm not a guy. But still. What you're talking about is just shady. Doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman.

Not doing your job is the same whether you have a penis or not.

Quick question since I'm not all that familiar with IFC rules.

If you turn them in for handing out bids early will the guys who accepted the bids be inelgible for rush?

I know how you feel. People have FLAUNTED breaking the rules at our rush.. Especially in dealing with our house. I've seen members of other fraternities escort prospectives to our door and wait there until they got their cards stamped (They have to visit each house before turning in a bid card).

Needless to say that we *DO* report these things and in recent years incedents have decreased.

If you want a clean rush this stuff has to start being reported.

If ya'll don't agree with the rules, change them.
