Your NPC stats

I thought it might be nice to see how well formal Rush works at various schools. . . I have a theory lol.

If you can remember:

1.How many girls start formal rush.

2. How many are left when prefs come around or the invitational rounds that determine quota.

3. What was Quota.

4. How many of the final girls from prefs were placed.

5. How many sororities?

6. How many groups made/missed quota and by what amount if you remember?

And anything else I am forgetting.

Sorry to tell you James but the average collegiate or alum really doesn't know exact numbers on this info. The only people really aware of this are the panhellenics themselves, and they generally don't release the exact numbers. Some of it can be determined (quota * the number of houses equals girls who attended at least one pref) But your first and last questions- number of girls to begin with and number of girls that finish are numbers usually not really known. Also--with your theory take into account that the number of girls that begin rush and the number of girls who attend pref can drop for MANY reasons. So try to avoid generalizations. Once your theory is perfected, though, I would love for you to share.

So I hope this is helpful:
USC
over 600 girls began rush ( I think around 640)
Quota was 50, so that means that 450 girls attended at least one pref.

I have no clue how many were placed, but I know that 3 houses made quota plus, 2 houses made quota, and 4 houses were just under quota.

There are 9 houses at USC.

Do Panhells keep that stuff secret on purpose? Because without that information its hard to tell what is really going on . . .

Maybe I was just a little more serious as a fraternity president than average but I knew exactly which groups got what amount of pledges as well as the numbers graduating and pledge retention.

I also knew exactly how many girls signed up for formal rush who got quota, what quota was, and even exactly how many girls they got through cobbing . . .

And I wasn't in a sorority I don't mean to sound like high and mighty but I would expect a sorority E-Board as wellaas the Rush people to know all those figures, and if they didn't it would be becasue panhell is hiding them for some reason.

I don't know for sure the exact numbers but:

Mizzou (U of Missouri Columbia)

A little over 1000 girls started rush last fall

Quota was 65 and only 7 out of 14 made quota initially but everyone except I think 1 house snap bid/COB'd up to quota

So...that means that 910 girls went to at least one pref to make quota 65, but I have no clue how many girls from formal rush alone were places since COB girls don't have to go through formal rush.

For University of Kentucky, fall 2002 formal rush:
1.How many girls start formal rush. -- 899

2. How many are left when prefs come around or the invitational rounds that determine quota. -- 730 attending pref

3. What was Quota. -- 62

4. How many of the final girls from prefs were placed. -- 668 received bids (689 signed pref cards).

5. How many sororities? 13 Panhellenic sororities participating in formal rush.

6. How many groups made/missed quota and by what amount if you remember? I *think* something like 9 sororities made quota, but I can't remember.

All of this info came from http://www.uky.edu/StudentAffairs/Greek/FORMAL02.htm, which includes many more statistics like number dropping after each round, percent receiving their first choice for bids, etc. Apparently UK's Panhel doesn't care to keep this stuff secret.
If anyone has any idea how quota is calculated, maybe you could look at something -- I've always heard rumors about how Panhel here always screws up quota and total, that it shouldn't be what it is, but I've never been able to figure it out.

Back in the day (mid-1990's) we typically had:

- 175 or so women start rush
- about 150 attending pref
- quota was usually around 30
- about 130 women received bids
- 5 NPC sororities
- Usually 3 sororities made quota, 1 would miss by 1 or 2, 1 would miss by a lot.

Rush was held in August.

My school has since gone to deferred rush, and while I don't have the exact numbers, numbers have dropped considerably.

Dang! I thought my school's recruitment was kinda big, but 700, 800, 900, 1000 PNMs???

That's wild! My college has near 20,000 students which isn't huge, mind you, but it's certainly not small.

There are nearly twice as many IFC fraternities here as NPC sororities (12 IFC vs. 7 NPC). Not that I'm complaining as far as all those guys go , but I still think that our Greek System is fairly small considering the size of the school.

What does everyone else think??

Yay, someone else from UK on here!

The only numbers I knew were the number of girls starting rush and quota; the rest I was never made aware of. It's obviously not a big secret, but I honestly didn't think much about the rest of those numbers. I do know, though, that most of the houses that did not make quota only missed it by a few.

And yes, I have heard that the numbers for quota and total get messed up during rush at UK, but I don't know if there's any truth to it.

Re: Your NPC stats

First off, recruitment stats are not a secret, and any woman could get them from the Panhellenic advisor. Usually, most VPs of Recruitment will get the information and share it with the leadership of the group, but it's not that scintillating that everyone sits around and talks about it.

1.How many girls start formal rush?

about 900-1000

2. How many are left when prefs come around or the invitational rounds that determine quota?
I use to know but I forgot....it's a big number though

3. What was Quota?
in the 4 years I was at UCF, quota averaged around 70.

4. How many of the final girls from prefs were placed?
The way UCF does it is they divide the number of girls coming to prefs by the number of sororities. That way, basically all girls will be placed (even if they must be snap bidded)

5. How many sororities?
10 sororities

6. How many groups made/missed quota and by what amount if you remember?
there were 3 groups that missed quota. One group was very close to quota and missed it by just a few girls.
